PETRONAS Readiness for Employment Programme (PREP)
PETRONAS Readiness for Employment Programme (PREP) Why is it important to develop the students? In line with the expectation of the industry to have quality graduates ready to adapt to the working culture. Closing the common competency gap of students being accepted for employment. To produce employable graduates who will contribute towards PETRONAS and the Nation.
Students are developed through various programmes:
1. Outward Bound School (OBS) Adventure & challenge: exciting activities involving uncertain outcomes and acceptable risks to build resilience. Inclusion & diversity: respecting differences and strengthens the richness of ideas and perspective especially in the company of others as diverse as he society in which we live. Social & environmental responsibility: instilling social and environmental responsibility that builds a sense of integrity which results in actions that have a positive effect on society and the environment. Learning through experience: a lifelong process based on action and reflection that instills values and promote skill mastery. Compassion & service: a hearthfelt, caring connection to each other and the world around us valuing our common humanity and the natural world.
2. Aspiring Achievers (AA) To identify the steps to effective personal management skills. To apply effective personal management skills in their action plan. To implement Visioning and Action plan to achieve higher CGPA. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PREP Experience (Young Leaders Forum 2019) PETRONAS Young Leaders Forum 2019 is a short yet impactful event for me personally as a sponsored student, to grow and develop myself as an agile warrior before we step into the working life. The forum was fully surrounded by the word ‘AGILE’, with a series of activities specially crafted for us to assess the scholars whether we are agile or fragile when ability meets adversity. Being grateful to be a part of this event, I have learnt to practice agility as a personal productivity tool. I am now more confident to be creative in finding solutions to tackle the obstacles encountered, before I have all the answers. It has taught me about the ability to move, think and understand very quickly based on any new conditions. I now manage to constantly self-reflect and adapt to most of the situations, which I definitely need it in coping up with my final year studies, and I am sure that this highly skilled behavior is going to be so much useful when I walk into the next phase of my life. The talk by speakers from top companies such as PETRONAS, AirAsia, Touch n Go as well as Favoriot also emphasized on the ability deliver instant, frictionless and personalized responsiveness at scale, which could be applied to large-scale projects with a promising gain. Apart from teamwork and communication between members, the group activities also provided us a platform to form a self-governing team which was highly flexible, adaptive and cross-functional when it came to solving problems and overcoming challenges. I am sure that all of us have learnt on how to decide on the priorities and resource allocations optimally to achieve the desired goals. In short, being agile can be a step forward of others. I do believe strongly that agility means there are no right or wrong answers, at which everything depends on the context when you are dealing with uncertainty and change. This forum has definitely given us an important lesson to be agile, to empower others to grow together, to share ideas in decision making and of course to look at failures as opportunities to learn and foster trust.
